Pear shaped fruit, small to medium in size with slightly rough, thin green skin. The flesh is of a buttery texture with excellent flavour. The tree has a vigorous spreading habit that shows alternate bearing characteristics. Plant in warm sunny position with excellent drainage. Group B Evergreen.

aka Avocado (Group A)

A large round Avocado that is traditionally harvested mid-summer to autumn. The thin skin remains green when ripe. The flesh is smooth, rich and buttery with a nutty flavour. Plant in a warm sheltered position with protection from frost. Group A Evergreen.

aka Banana

Beautiful green foliage and is highly disease resistant. Flowers in autumn and harvest in spring. Tight bunches of delicious lady finger bananas, short and fat and very sweet. Easy to grow but frost tender depending on your location. Fast growing.

aka Blackberry

A highly rated American cultivar with sturdy canes with few thorns. The large luscious berries ripen around January. The berries are very juicy with a tart yet sweet flavour. For best results plant in sun or part shade in deep acid soil. Deciduous.

Blackberries fruit on 2nd year wood. It is usual to cut back the cane that has finished fruiting and then train a 1 year old new cane in preparation for fruiting the following season. Suitable for planting in most areas of NZ.

This blackberry has an upright habit, no thorns and bumper crops of firm sweet fruit in summer - what more could you want? Someone to make the jam I suppose! Plant in sun or part shade in nice deep acid soil for best results. Deciduous.

Medium to large sized fruit, oval in shape. Attractive smooth, light green skin. Strong aromatic flavour with good sugar-acid balance. Medium vigor tree, moderately compact and easy to manage. Evergreen.

Feijoa Gemini has smooth skinned, dark green oval fruit with a highly flavoured flesh. The flesh is a little gritty but overall is smooth and juicy. Matures quite early towards the end of March. Will crop better with a companion but is self fertile. Plant in a sunny well drained spot. Evergreen.

Golden Goose TM. Man size fruit? Large to extra large. White flesh with smooth firm thick golden green skin. Good keeping feijoa. As with all Feijoas will fruit best when 2 or more are planted. Likes a sunny sheltered position. Evergreen.

An exciting very early bearer with large fruit with a delicious rich tropical flavour. Good vigour. Likely to be best variety to use in marginal colder areas. Self fertile, better yields when cross pollinated.

aka Fig Edible

Well the name tells you that this Fig crops well with green skinned fruit that turn purple when ripe. The flesh is sweet and juicy with a creamy texture. Large lush ornamental foliage. Plant in a warm sheltered position with good drainage and protection from harsh frost. Deciduous.

aka Maori Lemon

Now this is something different. The fruit is small, juicy with low acidic qualities and the skin is thick, knobbly and can also be eaten. The leaves are soft and aromatic which can be eaten in culinary dishes. Like all citrus they like a warm sheltered position, full sun. Evergreen.

Citrus. On 'Flying Dragon' rootstock to keep compact. A true lemon variety bearing basket-fulls of large oval shaped fruit with a distinctive sharp acidic flavour. Very juicy and has few seeds. The skin is fragrant and firm. Plant in the sun in well drained soil with protection from harsh frost.

aka Lime Kaffir aka Makrut Lime

Citrus.The essential Lime to use for culinary purposes as all parts of the 'Kaffir' are strongly aromatic especially the unusual 'double' leaves - these are a vital ingredient in Thai and Indonesian cuisine. The fruit are green, rough and 'warty' and not particularly juicy. Evergreen.

The word "Kaffir" is Arabic for infidel or what Muslims used to call unbelievers. How it became associated with a Lime tree I have yet to discover. However in this case it has no relation to its use as a derogatory term in some cultures. Citrus Information Pages

A beautiful ornamental fruit tree with sweet and nutritious, elongated white Mulberries that have the flavour of Apricots. The glossy green heart shaped leaves are very attractive, can be used as a feature tree. Self fertile, easy to grow. Deciduous.

aka Chilean Guava Syn Ugni Molinae

AKA as Chilean Guava or NZ Cranberry. A reliable little shrub with tight small leaves in an attractive bronze green shade. Little white flowers in spring are followed by fragrant edible berries. Easy to grow, clips well so can be used for topiary or hedging. Evergreen.

aka Olive

This olive from Greece has a nice compact form making a good choice for topiary work. Attractive grey green foliage and small white flowers followed by heavy crops of small fruit that have good oil content. Happiest in the sun with protection from harsh wind. Keep watered when young. Evergreen.

While Olives can tolerate poor soil they are happiest in nice fertile loam. Feed annually with a well-balanced fertiliser.

Frantoio produces quite small Olives that are very high in oil content. It is considered to be the premier oil variety in Tuscany. Excellent flavour for pickling. Highly ornamental as well as productive. Plant in a sunny well drained spot. Evergreen.

Olive. This North Island Selection is a popular variety as it is a prolific producer of fruits suitable for pickling. Highly ornamental tree with blue-grey foliage along with being productive. Plant in a sunny well drained spot. Evergreen.

This Olive has large fruit that ripen in early autumn and are perfect for pickling. Quickly forms a nice specimen tree with attractive grey-green foliage. Self-fertile, improve crops by planting with another Olea variety. Happiest in the sun with protection from harsh wind. Evergreen.

The Passionfruit vine has attractive mauve and white flowers that turn into yummy round dark purple fruit at the end of summer. To do well your vine must be in a sunny, sheltered, well-drained position. Though self-fertile will often do better when 2 are planted together. Evergreen.

A delicious fruiting shrub that hails from Brazil. That tells you it will like a nice warm sheltered spot in the garden. White flowers in spring followed by sweet and tangy red fruit that ripen from about April. Glossy green foliage. Likes good drainage and protection from harsh frost. Evergreen.

Your Guava will need frost protection when young but will eventually harden to light frosts. The fruit are ready when they are fully coloured and slightly soft to the touch. Do not prune in spring as you will cut off the fruiting flowers that appear on the current seasons branches (wood).

Produces light red juicy berries with excellent raspberry flavour. A dwarf raspberry that is self fertile, round compact habit that is thornless and ideal for containers on the deck or patio. When ripe eat straight from the bush, throw in the kids lunchboxes or make a delicious dessert.
